Dear Friends & Supporters,

In the early hours of Sunday 19 December the PAD Shelter was, once again, flooded when the river burst its banks sending a torrent of filthy water which reached waist height in a matter of minutes. Prior to the river bursting our own pumps had been dealing with the rain water effectively.

Shelter staff, committee members and kind volunteers raced to the shelter but despite our best efforts in appalling conditions to evacuate all the animals to safety 9 dogs and 11 cats lost their lives which is a devastating tragedy and one which fills us all with overwhelming sadness.

41 dogs were rescued from the shelter and all placed in temporary foster homes. The dogs cannot be returned to the shelter until some emergency kennels are organised in a safe place and this is something we are working on. The situation which occured yesterday must never be allowed to happen again.

We now need to replace all the items which were lost :
Food
Blankets
Leads
Collars
2 x Fridges
2 x Washing Machines
2 x Tumble Dryers
